The DJI Mini 5 Pro is the most ambitious release in the history of the Mini series. By shrinking a 1-inch sensor into a 249g body, DJI has finally closed the gap between consumer travel drones and professional aerial cameras. In 2026, it remains the ultimate “no-compromise” tool for creators who need high-end image quality without the burden of heavy regulations.
The 1-Inch Sensor Revolution
The headline feature of the Mini 5 Pro is its 50-megapixel Type 1 (1-inch) sensor.
- Low-Light Dominance: With a sensor 68% larger than its predecessor, the Mini 5 Pro delivers exceptional 14-stop dynamic range, making sunset and nightscape shots look cleaner and more detailed.
- Video Specs: Supports 4K/60fps HDR and an incredible 4K/120fps for cinematic slow-motion.
- Flexible Gimbal: The camera features a new 225-degree roll rotation, allowing for unique creative angles and “True Vertical Shooting” for TikTok and Reels without any loss in resolution.
Safety First: Nightscape LiDAR Obstacle Sensing
DJI has brought “uncrashable” technology to the Mini line with the introduction of forward-facing LiDAR.
- 360° Protection: Combined with an omnidirectional binocular vision system, the LiDAR sensor detects obstacles even in light levels below 1 lux, where traditional optical sensors fail.
- Next-Gen Smart RTH: The drone can now memorize its flight path and return to home safely even if it loses GPS signal, as long as some surface textures are visible to its sensors.
- Advanced Tracking: The ActiveTrack 360° system has been upgraded to handle high-speed sports tracking with more agility and better obstacle avoidance.
Flight Performance and Internal Storage
Efficiency and convenience were clearly priorities for the 2026 hardware update.
- Extended Battery: The standard Intelligent Flight Battery provides 36 minutes of airtime, while the “Plus” battery (available in Canada) pushes flights to an industry-leading 52 minutes.
- Massive Storage: Forgetting your SD card is no longer a disaster—the Mini 5 Pro includes 42GB of high-speed internal storage.
- Video Transmission: The O4+ system delivers a stable 10-bit HDR live feed from up to 20km away (FCC), ensuring you never lose sight of your shot.
Is the Mini 5 Pro worth the price?
While the starting price of $1,059 CAD is higher than previous models, the combination of a 1-inch sensor and LiDAR safety makes the DJI Mini 5 Pro a “mini Mavic 4” that requires significantly less paperwork to fly. It is the definitive choice for pro-sumer pilots in 2026.

User reviews
The ultimate professional and yet affordable drone, also good for beginners. Best affordable drone on the market! I would for sure recommend this to anybody. The quality is outstanding, and the drone can withstand up to 38kph of wind, making it so that you can fly it almost any day! it is very easy to use, but just one big thing to be aware of: do not take off until the number of GNSS satellites is above 13. this takes about 20 seconds of waiting. if you take off before it reaches 13 or higher, the drone will not be stable and can easily crash. 💥another thing to be aware of is that when it comes, the preset maximum altitude is only 20 meters, and the maximum distance from the controller is 20 meters. before taking off, you should set this to 50 meters or more max altitude and 100 meters or more max distance. The photo and video quality is the most professional I have ever seen.
Looks and feels like a Winner. I suspected that the DJI Mini 3 was so popular for a reason. It turned out, the Mini 3 is pretty much perfect—in my humble opinion, of course. This product arrived in a high-quality, eco-friendly, tiny hard paper box. Yes, it is a micro drone. But when you get this minute box, you can't believe the whole package (the drone, lithium battery, spare parts, charging cable, and RC control unit) can fit inside. Somehow, the box design and very clever way of putting all of the above together reminded me of Apple's iPhone packaging. Very smart. I was impressed from the very beginning.DJI product support is top-notch as well. There's tons and tons of info on their website and dedicated YouTube channels, as well as on consumers' private ones. It definitely feels overwhelming if you have never flown a drone before. But if you take your time, this substantial amount of information kind of trickles down, and things start making more and more sense. I would definitely recommend going through all of the beginners' tutorials to avoid any frustration and disappointment. Even though it's tiny and weighs only 249 grams, it is still an aircraft you're about to fly. And with that comes all kinds of responsibilities. I liked one of the recommendations on YouTube: "Do NOT do stupid things." Personally, it makes sense to get yourself familiar with all the legalities, like making sure you comply with all Transport Canada requirements. From a practical point of view, the Nav Canada Drone smartphone app comes in very handy to double-check whether you're allowed to fly a drone wherever you are here in Canada.Due to weather limitations, I only had a few opportunities to fly this marvel of technology. Nevertheless, I fell in love with it. The Mini 3 is very easy to fly, although it takes some getting used to. Reasonably quiet (you could hardly hear it even from, say, 30 meters away), stable, highly maneuverable, and producing vivid and sharp videos—what else can you ask for? ;-)I know many, many wonderful experiences lie ahead of me. I believe I will go through hours upon hours of learning and practicing with this fine aircraft. And I'm looking forward to becoming a proud and capable pilot of such a wonder of technology.Thank you, DJI, for a product so well designed and manufactured.
Make sure you budget the time to learn, not just the purchase. This is a very nice drone, as far as I can tell so far. My mistake in planning and time management, this is not something that you just open the box and use. First time I unboxed, read instructions, charged batteries, watched video tutorials and by the time I was ready to fly it was almost dark out. Put away for another day.3 weeks later I had some time and got it out to fly. Watched more tutorials while batteries topped up. Had trouble getting controller and drone to power up, took a while to understand that you don't "click" or "click/hold" or "double click". You "click.. click/hold". Like Modern Family episode, it isn't "double click" it's "click .. click/hold."I did get to fly it a bit, camera works well and I can see the leaves in my eavestroughs. Just need more time to get out and practice. It got dark again.Reason for buying: Over 60 and my wife is not happy when she sees me climbing ladders and scrambling around on the roof and barns inspecting things. Figure a little investment in a good drone for my property inspections was worth it for her piece of mind. Summer still young, we'll get there before the leaves are falling again.EDIT***I have had a chance to fly it a few times now. It is pretty robust. Ran into a cinder block chimney and it fluttered to the ground. Later brushed a maple tree and trimmed off a few leaves, and it fluttered to the ground. In both instances there was no major damage. Set it upright and took off again.Lesson #1. Don't be looking at the screen on the controller when the camera is pointing forward and you are moving the joystick for sideways motion. You might bump into something. Look at the drone.Lesson #2 Don't be looking at the drone when it is a distance in front of you with the camera pointing in the direction of travel which happens to be LTR and you don't have very good depth perception. You might bump into something. Look at the controller.I will have to keep an eye on the prop blades. We have a good bit of sand in the air during the summer, especially when it is as dry and breezy as it is this year. I am already seeing some sandblasting on the leading edge of the blades. Plastic is softer than sand.
So happy receive it love it
