Hefty guy here - Retuned my 9bot and couldn’t be happier
Let me preface by saying I’m 5’11” and 245lbs. I’m new to the kick scooter world and hopped on the craze due to, you guessed it, gas prices. I don’t necessarily live in a area that’s bike path friendly and the sidewalks are less than desirable. I have to commute through some uneven terrain for a bit before getting to those areas with dedicated paths so keep that in mind.I wanted something reliable, decently fast, and that could handle my weight. I originally purchased the f series from 9bot in hopes it would suffice but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I needed something a bit more powerful and comfortable so I started looking at returning it. I ended up finding the NIU series and just happened to be at a time where there were good coupons available making it the same price as the 9bot. After extensive YouTubing and review reading I decided to make the jump.Set up was easy. The app is a bit more user friendly than “the-scooter-company-who-must-not-be-named”, and everything seems to connect with ease. One thing I liked about the other app was the social networking between other riders around the world. It was just neat being able to have access to that kind of feature.The build quality is superior and feels well built and solid. The attention to detail is excellent and even though there is no suspension, even on rocky terrain it feels sturdy. It’s more comfortable than the scooter I returned by about 25%. The wider tires have to account for some of this. It’s also nice to have a wide base and foot room, which the KQi3 Pro has. Wider handle bars also make for a comfortable and confident ride.As a bigger dude I’m always nervous I’m going to stall out on an incline which I did every time I rode the other scooter. The KQi3 Pro has a substantially more powerful motor and it shows. I’ve been able to climb some impressively steep inclines. Of course there is a bit of a slow down, but nonetheless I make it up just fine. I’m also impressed with its ability to maintain speed with my weight. It doesn’t seem to make any sort of difference.The range is another impressive point for the cost of this scooter. My weight had little effect on its ability to make it 18 miles on a full charge with many stops and decent inclines.The design is also a selling point. It has more personality than the others in this price range. The running light/head lamp is a very nice touch, giving it a sense of modernness and maturity. I purchased the black version and I really like it. However, I’m nervous about scratches occurring because powder coat tends to get scratched up easily, but we’ll see.I haven’t ran this thing through any puddles or rain yet, but it will inevitably happen at some point. Will update review if anything negative occurs.All-in-all, this thing is just what I was looking for. For my first scooter I’m glad I made this switch. If there’s a deal on this, BUY IT.

I had a different brand before and i sent it back because it was slow and the battery is unpredictable. This scooter from Niu is great. This was the replacement. I decided to try this one out and i like it. I got it for a little less than $800 because i had the promotion and i think it’s worth it. I have been using this everyday to go to work and back home for more than a month now and so far the battery life is great. It has an app where you can customize and also monitor battery. It is also quick (21mph) and the range is true as advertised. I only charge this once a week i have a 4 mile commute roundtrip. It has a headlight and brake light and a halo type running light that’s always on. The build is sturdy and solid. It has been reliable so far. Overall, i am satisfied with this product. 5 stars.

Here is an update:
I managed to replace the stock broken throttle with a new hopefully higher quality one from amazon. The process is kind of simple but requires you learn basic wiring once the control panel is disassembled. You will need this kit ( CQRobot 600 Pieces 2.0mm JST-PA JST Connector Kit. 2.0mm Pitch Female Pin Header, JST PA - 2/3/4 Pin Housing JST Adapter Cable Connector Socket Male and Female, Crimp DIP Kit.) along with a crimper for JST connectors and pliers to make the connections, then some hot glue to seal the wires in and a waterproofing sealant if you want to maintain the Ip 54 rating. But the biggest tip i can give is that the red, green and black wires for the throttle represent red(positive) black(negative) and green(signal) so when buying a throttle match that throttles colors and definitions with the ones on the control panel (the throttle you buy will have the positive negative and signal pairing in the definition of the product page generally). I was naive at first and i thought red was negative green positive and black signal because this is the typical pattern but, in this case it wasn't. best of luck when you encounter this throttle issue someday, glad this scooter didn't become E waste and make sure to take your time.

I'm going to start off with the underline issues of this scooter, this scooters throttle is a brittle mess that will break on you eventually and unless you are comfortable disassembling a 700-dollar electric scooter your basically out of luck. The throttle worked for about two months and then it intermittently started to cut off every few minutes. This is a problem because when the throttle would cut off and regen braking was on, it would throw me forward due to regen braking activating when it senses the throttle is de activated. I'm sure you can imagine just how dangerous this is, imagine rolling through at 20 mph and having your motor cut off and being thrown into the road? I would highly suggest if you have this scooter and its past its return period, that you turn off regen braking in the Niu scooter settings immediately. It will still be available when you pull your brake levers because there is another sensor for regen braking built into the levers, well unless that fails someday also... Not to mention the nightmare of dealing with flat tires on this thing, good luck.

But now for the positives (Range is about 13-15 miles in hilly areas maybe 20 if it's completely flat, charging is about 5-6 hours from 20 percent, Battery life is decent i would say i get an hour and a half of constant riding in my area and i weigh 200 pounds. The ride itself is also quite comfortable even without actual shock absorbers, and finally when adjusted properly the braking is strong and reliable. But none of this means anything if the scooter won't even last you a year before it becomes a death trap so unfortunately i cannot recommend. I hate leaving bad reviews because i know how integral good reviews are for a company's success in e commerce, but this was simply inexcusable and quite honestly negligent. Keep in mind i bought this scooter in the summer and it was never ridden in the rain and i asked Niu for help regarding this issue but now its 2 weeks later and still no response from them, so much for that 2-year warranty...

This scooter has been great for getting around boston, though it is a bit heavy. I had to buy a strap to make it easier to carry when I could not ride it, and most bike locks dont fit it. Though, it has a very nice suspension, and goes up to the claimed speed, but only once you change the mode in the app. And a quick tip, dont ride them on bumpy sidewalks, your feet and arms will hurt.

<INTRODUCTION>
I bought the kqi3 pro black color scooter. The packaging was nice and neat, had a lot of protecting foam in the package, and the scooter was in perfect condition. The instruction in the box was relatively straightforward to follow, with given tools to tighten the screws. The plastic film wraps all over the scooter; no dents or scratches were found when I first got it. I was able to set up the scooter within 15 minutes. I only faced a tiny issue with the scooter app NIU.

<SCOOTING EXPERIENCE>
The scooter will initially be in E-save mode (max speed 8 MPH) when you first unbox it; it was a safety feature. However, my iPhone could not launch the safety tutorial to unlock the costume mode (max 20 MPH). I figured out it requires you to launch the phone app while connecting the scooter with Bluetooth and ride it for around 2 Km to unlock the full speed through the app.

So far, I have been riding the scooter for two weeks, and I have had an enjoyable experience with it. The scooter weighs around 20.2kg, providing a sturdy body and steady ride. There is no problem riding it on pavements or roads. It can handle very much everything, from grass to rocks or sands. From my testing, it charges around 5-6 hours from low battery to full battery and can travel around 34 Km with max speed (it can go more than that, but I haven't drained out all the battery yet).

<CHARGING>
Charging this scooter was simple; a flap on the side covers the charging port, preventing dirt or water from it; the charging brick is a reasonable size and has LED lights indicating when it's charging (red), or it's not (green). The charging brick will automatically stop charging once the fully charged scooter, so I don't have to worry about explosive batteries; this is a thoughtful safety feature.

Another safety feature this scooter provides is a kick start, which means the scooter will not move until you generate 2/3 MPH of speed. This prevents me from an accidental push on the throttle.

<CONCLUSION>
Overall, I would highly recommend this scooter to anyone that wants a quick, compact commute tool. The only complaint I had so far was minor issues with the mobile app, and the scooter's weight is a bit too heavy for me to hand carry it around. I love the design and the simple display it has. Excellent battery life and provides consistent speed. The cruise mode allows me to rest, and the pavement mode will enable me to ride on pavements safely. A mobile app with an internal lock prevents thieves from stealing the scooter—a fantastic product and worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice little transportation tool

<INTRODUCTION>

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible app, terrible range readings.

The app is downright useless right up until the point of trying to make an account, I had to switch from 3 networks and attempt for 15 minutes to make an account, you need an account to fully unlock the scooter (it is limited to 9MPH out of the box, you must do a safety tutorial to get the full 15MPH.)

I got in, did the safety tutorial and off I go! Watched a few reviews here and there, oh.. it has cruise control, hold the throttle down fully for 15 seconds then you should hear a beep, never get a beep even at max throttle for a good minute and a half.

The app is also just downright crap and don’t rely on it for how much range you have, when I left the house to go to my mothers’ house to drop something off and come back (roughly 2 miles / 3.2KM ) it said I had 8KM range… I’d say 1.2 miles in, the bloody thing starts to slow down from 15 to 12.. okay, this seems a bit weird. But i keep on going, few hundred metres later I’m having to keep using my leg and kicking along to keep the speed above 8! Check the app again it says I have 0KM range.. so that was annoying, half the journey I had to use it as a normal scooter with my leg.. another issue i face is that the app can be temperamental whilst you try to connect to the scooter and seems to be inconsistent.

If you plan on riding in rural areas where the road and or path is absolutely buggered, just don’t bother, there’s no suspension and you’re scared you’ll break your shiny new Scooter, not to mention you’re always looking over your shoulder due to it not being legal for on public property use.

Had it for 5-6 days and the back breaks seem to be rubbing against the wheel which makes a nasty consistent high pitched noise, every half second or so.. isn’t pleasant, I assume off the god awful rural abandoned by local county council roads i have to deal with.

Range is not 31 Miles (50KM) I’d say at the most, possibly 20 miles, it isn’t that much. (I hit the 75KG weight and I’m 5’8)

Other than those small gripes, brilliant scooter! If they had added Suspension, better app, advertised range, and a better brake light (it’s more of a reflector than a break light, could do with being a bit brighter)

I am surprised you read through all that, you deserve a medal.

Edit: got Error 03, throttle failure. No replacement parts to repair yourself, not a standardised part. Scummy company for this. Don’t buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth the money

can not start it if not download the app, which made me feel worse. when installing, there is one bolt can not be fix into the handle, the head is outside now. it seems like the connection is not drilled well. meanwhile it is TOO heavy,although it has the notional 25km capacity. but i believe it is for a 50kg individual. i prefer the scooter with shock absorber for the front wheel, since there are TOO many potholes the road in montreal. the fast i drive, the more numb from the shock i have.after several times of charging, the battery efficiency is decreasing. today, norminal 16km in app, acctual distance is 10km. i had to wait 1h for bus

5.0 out of 5 stars Most fun way to ride

 I have had my NIU scooter for just under three months now and I am absolutely in love!

I live a busy & active life with full days, often needing to be multiple places in a short span of time - but I am also someone who lives with chronic pain who doesn't drive.

Because of this, getting around especially when I'm in flare can be a strain needing to walk or bike everywhere, so I began researching the many electric scooter options out there wanting to get something that would improve upon my independence regardless of what my pain levels were.

There are a lot of decent options out there if you're just looking for a little recreational ride - but I knew I wanted something sturdy, that I could rely on for longer rides and multiple times daily use without having to charge every day, which eliminated a lot of the other scooters I came across. Enter the NIU KQi3 Pro.

With its larger deck, 32 km/h max speed, and ability to go up to 50 km on a single charge, it is very stable and efficient in getting me everywhere I need to go.

Zipping around on the scooter is a blast, and because of this, it makes me want to go more places, which has delightfully opened my world back up. And with it's bright led light, and rear brake lights, it even feels good traveling at night.

It's no small joy riding along the waterfront in this delightful summer weather - passing lines of traffic that would have otherwise had me stuck.

With the distance, I am able to reach the furthest corners of the city and return on a single charge, and often check in to multiple spots in a day with battery still left.

I haven't yet figured out a reliable way I trust to lock it up, so I usually bring it into stores etc. with me. With its weight sitting just below 43 lbs, some days that is easier than others - depending usually if I'm in flare - but even so it's never an immovable amount for me to carry, and it folds with ease to put into carts (if you're feeling ambitious and don't mind people giving you funny looks, which I don't) or vehicles to transport when need be.

Even going up big hills this beaut handles surprisingly well. There is a noticeable drop in speed (which is to be expected) but if you approach a hill already moving you'll be fine.

Everywhere I go with this I have people complimenting me on it, asking me about the brand and where I got it from, and I know many have taken to watching the sales on this for when they too can get their own as well.

The only possible drawbacks I have noted from my own experience are these:

1. The size of the main body - great for stability, however there doesn't appear to be a lot of accessories made to fit this size currently, so planning out my accessories will take a little bit more work. I have been able to add a cell phone mount and mirror with the use of a handlebar extender, however no water bottle holder has been made to adapt for either the main body or handlebar extension so far, and third party storage bags that attach to the main body otherwise have mixed reviews. This is not a deal breaker as I typically travel with a backpack anyways, just a little disappointing for days I want to travel especially light.

2. Not having very secure options for locking it up. I've looked online at a few ways to work around this with electric scooters, but many of them rely on a small triangle cutout on the design of the frame which the KQi3 Pro just does not have. This does have an alarm/locking function, but I don't see that being as much of a deterrent as someone could just carry it off or throw it into the back of a vehicle anyways as it continued to beep. There are still things that can be done, but where I live, I don't know if that would be seen as a challenge for someone rather than a real barrier, so for now I am sticking to bringing it in with me wherever I go.

3. Occasionally the tension in my left break won't catch, although this only appears to happen at the beginning of my ride, and it does so inconsistently. Reading the manual it talks about ways to adjust the disk brake and I do intend on trying that, just a minor thing that occurs sometimes within the first block of travel - but also only when I'm first leaving my home?

Other than these things, the scooter has honestly been amazing. It's given me time and joy back in traveling around my city, and I feel excited to do things that would have otherwise been a chore before, especially on higher pain days. Beyond even the things needed, I try to make a point of doing a recreational ride once a day also, even if I have only a few minutes, and with its speed, that sees me able to go far.

Considering the price points on many of the other scooters which are not far off, and the higher capabilities of this one, I think the NIU KQi3 Pro is a great buy - especially if you can get it on sale!

In every way I highly recommend.
