That's not why I bought these though. I can't always crank my tunes at home & traveling, and needed a way to listen at concert levels with good fidelity while walking around. Mission accomplished. These are better than a lot of my wired IEMs somehow, and don't tether me to an amp. These are arguably some of the better-reviewed buds in the mainstream hi-fi category, and have failed to disappoint there. Sound quality is remarkable. Bass and midbass are seemingly limitless and precise. Midrange and high end are articulate and free of distortion, artefacts, or weird resonances I've heard in some earbuds. They're just gooooood!
The app is OK. Compared with all the others out there, the features don't really stand out, but it's usable. Battery readings seem to get a little wonky sometimes and I've seen them discharge at variable rates if I just leave them on the table. All forgivable enough, but I'm being picky at the higher end of this market.
Build quality is top notch all the way around. Foam tips really make a lot of the difference with these, and take a little breaking-in. At first I could only wear them about an hour at a time, but hours on end are no trouble after that period. Battery life is about average in the category - that's to say it's good. Quick charge when low is super nice. Actually, these don't make a lot of compromises.
Seriously though, lossless audio through these is transformational. The level of quality you get for the price sets a new standard for almost weightless wireless high fidelity. They're wildly good. I have dozens of earsets around, and some hi-fi, and these get the business every single time. Oh, and did I mention they're nice to have on a plane?
While the issue with the earbuds themselves won't apply to a lot of people, Amazon's ludicrous, preposterous, ridiculous return protocol might apply to everyone. First, all the sudden I'm supposed to wait 30 days after they take possession of the earbuds for credit to be applied to my Amazon credit card. IOW, I'm supposed to run a balance or pay cash for something I don't want and they have possession of for more than 30 days. Those terms are so far out of line in terms of retail electronic sales that Amazon has a duty to disclose this to the buyer in clear language at the time of purchase. The idea is to dissuade people from returning the item due to process, which really verges on fraud.
Further evidence for Amazon's intentional use of process barriers is that my only option for getting the earbuds back to them is via UPS "to your door pickup." Sounds convenient but it's anything but. They make three attempts, you have to be there, they give no time frame for coming, and they seem to come and go with the wind, leaving behind a slip on the door--strike one, strike two, etc...Once they come and go three times (Im on strike two) I have to call customer service to find out the next hurdles to jump over to get these earbuds back to them so that I can get started on my 30 day waiting period.
Honestly, I only bought these because Amazon kept putting them up in my face everytime I went on there to buy the thing I really needed. I thought, what the heck. Big mistake. I could have got these at Best Buy for the same price and returned them the same day, gotten a full refund, and be totally done with it. This is not the return policy that Amazon advertises going in, but it's what they might do to you should you fall for the bait like I did. I certainly won't be fooled like this again. I've set myself a $125 limit for Amazon purchases. Anything more Ill get it at Best Buy or Walmart.

The sound quality is outstanding, nice amount of bass and the app provided for different option in terms of sound as well as customising.
Talk through is excellent so you don’t have to take them out to have a conversation. Yes it feels a bit odd at first but once you’re confident you are shouting you can chat easily. You can change the sitting to whether turn this off (I found it activates if I cough which is ideal if I know I’m somewhere I won’t be talking) or you can change the amount of time is stays active.
Noise cancellation is very good! Remember these are ear buds, they will never match over ear headphones (I recommend the over ear versions of these whether you go hard on the M5’s or get a great deal on the M3’s - I have the latter and they remain my favourite to block the world out and disappear into great sounding music!)
They do however turn the volume right down on chatter around you. I bought these for the office where there can be upwards of 8 people talking together or on the phone - we do have someone who lacks awareness of their own volume but these buds heavily reduce this noise.
You may heard a bit when the music goes quite or in between tracks but even on the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 they do do this. So go at these knowing you’ll hear a little something and you’ll be right.
The buds themselves are big. I have small ears (I’m female) and they fit and feel great. I thought they’d feel heavy or cumbersome but they didn’t. I’ve considered the new M5’s but as I don’t have problem I don’t need that solution (albeit if just LOVE to have them because they are going to be great!)
You get three sizes of tips. I wear two different sizes having one ear canal a bit bigger.
You just make sure you twist them in (gently, no need to ram them!) to get them to ‘lock’ and that will support comfort and noise cancellation.
The holder keeps the buds charged, it’s nice and small, so would fit in your jeans pocket for example, and not look like you have something extremely bulky in there. I like that the ear buds grab magnetically into the case and also when you close it it has that reassuring magnetic snap. There is a light on the case to show you the charging level as well. This can also be viewed within the app.
In terms of the app, this is brilliant and stable, as is the connection between my iPhone and the ear buds. The app offers everything you would expect in terms of information regarding the charge of the buds and the case as well as the ability to change from noise cancelling to ambient sound or two neither of these.
In summary, Sony know exactly what they are doing and whether you go for the M4 or another version such as the M5. I have no doubt you will not be disappointed.
Aplikacja Sony i funkcje typu voice chat czy też wprowadzenie multipointa robią robotę i dobrze świadczą o podejściu producenta do klientów. Ten model mogę polecić przede wszystkim osobom, które mogą słuchać muzyki w kodeku LDAC. Dopiero wtedy poczujemy ich potencjał. Sony wykonało kawał dobrej roboty!
