Apple has recently shared additional information about the USB-C port featured in all iPhone 15 models in a newly released support document.
Firstly, it’s worth noting that all iPhone 15 models have the capability to charge small accessories like an Apple Watch or AirPods case via the USB-C port at a maximum rate of 4.5W.
While Apple had previously announced this functionality, they had not specified the wattage until now.
Secondly, the support document reveals that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models are equipped with USB 3.2 Gen 2 support, enabling lightning-fast data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps.
Although Apple had previously confirmed that these devices support USB 3, this latest disclosure provides clarity on the exact specification. It’s important to mention that the USB-C cable that comes with iPhone 15 Pro models only supports USB 2 speeds, so if you desire faster data transfer, you’ll need to invest in a higher-spec cable.
As previously reported, the document confirms that all iPhone 15 models support DisplayPort, allowing for impressive 4K HDR video mirroring on an external display or TV. This can be achieved with a compatible USB-C to DisplayPort cable or an appropriate adapter. However, it’s important to note that, unlike certain iPad models equipped with Stage Manager, the iPhone does not support an extended display mode.
For those interested in videography, iPhone 15 Pro models offer the ability to record ProRes video directly onto an external storage device, delivering impressive 4K resolution at a smooth 60 frames per second.
Finally, if you wish to connect your iPhone 15 to a vehicle featuring a USB-A port for wired CarPlay functionality, Apple suggests using a USB-C to USB-A cable for seamless compatibility.
